How does coaching work?
The process of coaching is highly customized
to the individual client. In general coaching is
a four phase process:
- Assessment: A comprehensive
evaluation of your or your business's
current strengths and areas for growth is
conducted using a combination of interview
questions and questionnaires. We have dozens
of proprietary assessments to help target
the areas to focus on in coaching. We are
also qualified to give measures such as the
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®
and the Emotional Competency Inventory
(ECI) 360-degree feedback assessment.
- Goal Planning: The next step is
to create a specific goal plan along with
action steps to help you reach your goals.
Goals help you figure out where you are
going and how you will get there. A quote to
describe this process is: If you don’t
know where you’re going, you’ll wind up
somewhere else (Yogi Berra).
- Action Phase: Once you know your
goals, it is time to take action. You
achieve change during and between sessions.
Together, you and your coach create several
action steps to work on between each of your
sessions. Your coach will hold you
accountable to reaching your goals and
you’ll work on creating your own system of
accountability during the process.
- Assessment of Progress: The
achievement of your short term goals is
assessed and the action plan is modified as
needed. Your coach will also ask you to
evaluate the effectiveness of your coaching
to be sure that it is as effective as
possible. You and your coach may decide to
change the frequency of your sessions to
best help you meet your goals.
Does it matter where I live?
No, it does not matter where you live because
most of our coaching is done over the telephone
and our clients are all across the United
States. You don’t even need to be in the U.S.
Some of our clients prefer to meet in person in
their offices or ours. If you want us to do a
workshop, training, seminar, or consultation
with your staff, we are happy to travel to you.
How often do I meet with my coach?
The process of coaching is flexible and you
and your coach will determine a plan to best
meet your needs based on our
three
packages. Sessions are 45 minutes. There
are four important considerations in determining
the structure of your coaching:
- When you want to meet your goals.
You may decide to increase the frequency
and/or length of sessions to reach your
goals more quickly.
- Size of your goals. If your goals
are relatively small, specific, and
circumscribed, then less frequent or shorter
sessions may be what you need. If your goals
are larger in scope, then increase the
frequency or duration of sessions.
- Resources. Consider your time,
energy, finances, and other resources. For
example, if you have adequate motivation and
finances and you want to see major changes
quickly, enroll in Program 1 (See programs
listed below).
- Your own style. If you tend to
need just a bit of guidance and then take
action quickly on your own, then Package 2
or 3 are probably a good match. If you
prefer to talk ideas out and have more
accountability for your progress, then more
contact will be helpful and Package 1 is
your best bet.
How long does coaching last?
We are proud to say that we offer no
coaching contracts. Many companies require
you to commit to 6-months or more, but we
believe that you will naturally stay in coaching
as long as you are getting a great return on
your investment, which of course is our goal..
The more time and energy you put into coaching,
the better results you’ll see, however, we
realize that there are times when it makes sense
to take a break (due to travel or other
commitments).
The average length of coaching is around nine
months, but there is a good deal of variation.
When clients feel that coaching is providing a
good deal of benefit or they would like to
achieve long-term goals, they choose to work
with their coach longer. Some clients work with
their coach for years and the coach is there
with the client through many important life
changing experiences. And some clients work with
their coach for a brief period of time, such as
a couple months, and return to coaching at a
later time. Over two-thirds of our clients are
repeat clients.
How does payment work?
Coaching packages are by the month. Your
monthly investment includes the sessions and the
between session support described above. If you
enroll in the middle of the month, your payment
plan will be prorated accordingly. Payment is
accepted by personal check, business check,
credit card, or paypal.
Since coaching for at least six months is
most effective at creating significant lasting
change, we offer a 10% reduction in fees for
those who enroll for six months or longer. We
also offer professional discounts and
promotions.
Is coaching tax deductible?
Business coaching is typically tax deductible
as a business expense. Check with your
accountant. Executive coaching is not typically
tax deductible (check with your accountant to
assess your specific situation), however, many
past executive coaching clients have requested
that their companies cover the costs of
coaching.
