Coaching FAQs
How does coaching work?
The process of coaching is highly customized
to the individual client. In general coaching is
a four phase process:
- Assessment: A comprehensive
evaluation of your or your business's
current strengths and areas for growth is
conducted using a combination of interview
questions and questionnaires. We have dozens
of proprietary assessments to help target
the areas to focus on in coaching. We are
also qualified to give measures such as the
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®
and the Emotional Competency Inventory
(ECI) 360-degree feedback assessment.
- Goal Planning: The next step is
to create a specific goal plan along with
action steps to help you reach your goals.
Goals help you figure out where you are
going and how you will get there. A quote to
describe this process is: If you don’t
know where you’re going, you’ll wind up
somewhere else (Yogi Berra).
- Action Phase: Once you know your
goals, it is time to take action. You
achieve change during and between sessions.
Together, you and your coach create several
action steps to work on between each of your
sessions. Your coach will hold you
accountable to reaching your goals and
you’ll work on creating your own system of
accountability during the process.
- Assessment of Progress: The
achievement of your short term goals is
assessed and the action plan is modified as
needed. Your coach will also ask you to
evaluate the effectiveness of your coaching
to be sure that it is as effective as
possible. You and your coach may decide to
change the frequency of your sessions to
best help you meet your goals.
Does it matter where I live?
No, it does not matter where you live because
most of our coaching is done over the telephone
and our clients are all across the United
States. You don’t even need to be in the U.S.
Some of our clients prefer to meet in person in
their offices or ours. If you want us to do a
workshop, training, seminar, or consultation
with your staff, we are happy to travel to you.
How often do I meet with my coach?
We offer 90-day coaching programs
because our experience has shown our clients’
initial goals are typically achievable within 90
days. You will meet with your coach every-other week for a 45-minute session.
One of the primary benefits of our coaching
programs is that you will have your coach on
call as needed in between your scheduled
sessions. You can ask us anything you like by
email and we will get back to you, typically
right away or within 24-48 hours. If you have an
urgent issue and have not heard back from us by
email, you are welcome to call us.
On average, our clients contact us once or
twice a week with questions and requests for
feedback. Some clients never contact us in
between sessions but appreciate that they are
able to should the need arise.
We limit the number of clients that we work
with to be sure we can be optimally and quickly
available to all clients. Here are some ways
that our clients have used their email access to
us.
Small Business Marketing Clients
- Ask us to review a letter they have
drafted to send out to potential referral
partners.
- Request feedback on their website
navigation, design, and copy.
- Share their ideas and ask for assistance
with their “pink spoon” giveaway to enroll
new members of their list.
- Review titles for presentations, books,
articles, and special report to be sure they
are as catchy (and/or search-engine
friendly) as possible.
Executive Leadership Coaching Clients
- Share their preparation for a big
meeting or presentation and ask for
feedback.
- Review a difficult conversation that
took place with a colleague or a business
partner.
- Discuss a problem they are having with
an employee or their boss.
- Get feedback on how they’re handling a
conflict or presenting themselves in a
high-stakes situation.
How long does coaching last?
All
coaching programs are 90 days. At that time,
you’ve likely met your specified goals. If you
wish to continue, you are welcome to enroll for
another 90 days. At times we customize a monthly
coaching or other form of maintenance package
for our existing clients. Discuss options with
your coach as you near the end of your program.
We also offer our coaching clients the
opportunity to buy an hour of time with their
coach at a discounted rate in the future if they
need laser-coaching around a specific topic.
Laser coaching is not available for people who
have not completed one of our programs.
Is business coaching tax deductable?
Small business coaching is typically tax
deductable because it is a business-building
expense. Save your receipts for tax time.
Executive leadership coaching may be tax
deductable depending on your situation. Check
with your accountant.
